Pumpkin weigh-off
They did it again, Herman Boonen and Luc Vanheuckelom! They claimed the top 4 with following weights:
– Herman Boonen: 1014,7kg
– Herman Boonen: 996,7kg
– Luc Vanheuckelom: 850,8kg
– Luc Vanheuckelom: 814,1kg
Jan De Roye secured the fifth place.

On Saturday October 4th the GPC Belgian Pumpkin Weighing Championship 2025 was organized again. Not only giant pumpkins were weighted, also squashes, marrows, bushel gourds, field pumpkins, tomatoes, and even watermelons. Finally, the longest long gourds in Belgium were also measured.

After the GPC Belgian Weigh-off, the European Weigh-off in Ludwigsburg is organized. Mario Vangeel also took his Giant to Ludwigsburg and took the 1st place with a pumpkin of 1152kg.

Our pumpkins are ready for the Belgian Weigh off on Saturday October 5th 2024. As you can see, some growers were able to deliver a huge one.
Hope to see you tomorrow at Ruiterslokaal (LRV), Boekweitbaan 43 in Kasterlee.

Time for the weigh-off 2023 in Kasterlee. First it looked like we were not going to reach a weight higher than 800kg.
Luckily Herman Boonen managed to grow a pumpkin heavier than 1 tonne: 1002kg to be precise. He was followed by Peter Jolie with 862kg and Cel Dierckx having a pumpkin of 727kg.
It didn’t stop at Belgian titles though, as Luc Vanheuckelom broke the European record for Squashes! He now sets the record at 842.5kg. Jef Leysen and Jens Segaert took the 2nd (542,5kg) and 3rd place (465,5kg).
Also check our pictures taken, as Marrows, Long Gourds and Field Pumpkins were also present.
There we were again with about 60 giant pumpkins at the Pumpkin Market in our village Kasterlee.
Luc Vanheuckelom and Herman Boonen managed to take the top 4 of the ranking:
So of course something we celebrated later on that evening. Look further for some pictures.
1046kg: the weight of the Giant Pumpkin of Luc Vanheuckelom. He ended first at the GPC Belgian Pumpkin Weigh-off in Kasterlee, followed by Herman Boonen with 1032,5kg and Jens Segaert: 911,5kg.
Also some squashes attended: Jef Leysen won with a squash of 497,5kg, Johan Aernouts ended 2nd with 371kg and the 3rd place was taken by Luc Vanheuckelom with 339,5kg.

On Saturday October 2nd 2021 the GPC Belgian Championship Pumpkin weigh-off 2021 was organized in Kasterlee. Although our biggest pumpkin wasn’t there yet, the weigh-off ended with a great top 3 for both the Giant pumpkins and the Squashes.Top 3 Giant pumpkins

A few years ago Mario Vangeel won the Giant Pumpkin European Championship, but this year he seems to attempt to break the world record. Something the press also noticed.
On 28/09/2021 Mario could be seen in the late-night news on VRT, but also newspapers and radio find their way to Kasterlee:

In October 2019 a small documentary was made by Leen Poppe.
“The best pumpkin growers in Europe can be found in the Kempen region. I was fascinated by Jan and his pumpkin friends, so I decided to make a short documentary about it.” she said.
